The Basic Education Coalition (BEC) is a group of leading US-based organizations and academic institutions working together to promote global peace and prosperity through education. By leveraging our collective technical expertise and combining advocacy efforts, BEC members raise a unified voice to ensure US policy makers support and strengthen education for the developing world. As a result, from BEC’s inception in 2001 to 2018, US foreign assistance funding for basic education programs has increased from $105 million to $800 million.

The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a civil society movement that promotes and defends education as a basic human right. The GCE campaigns and advocates at the international, regional, and national level to put pressure on governments and the international community to deliver the right of everyone: a free, quality, public education. Annually, GCE runs a Global Action Week campaign, which grew from 2 million people since its inception in 2003 to over 15 million in 2010 and continues to grow in the years since.

UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition was formed in March 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic caused school closures around the world and amplified existing education inequalities. Bringing together partners from a range of sectors, the Coalition set out to mitigate these disruptions by mobilizing support and coordinating local, national, regional, and global responses to ensure the continuity of learning.

Comprising of private sector members, multilateral institutions, non-governmental organizations, civil society actors, networks and agencies, and international media groups, the Coalition now has 200+ Members supporting its four large-scale missions:

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is the largest global fund solely dedicated to transforming education in lower-income countries, and a unique, multi-stakeholder partnership. GPE works to deliver quality education so that every girl and boy can have hope, opportunity, and agency. GPE’s mission is “to mobilize partnerships and investments that transform education systems in developing countries, leaving no one behind.” Since 2015, GPE has supported 24.8 million children globally including 18.5 million in PCFCs and 11.8 million girls.

Child Rights Connect is an independent non-profit network made up of more than 80 national, regional, and international organizations. Through its members Child Rights Connect reaches out to every country on the planet. The shared aim of the network is to ensure that all children can fully enjoy their rights, as defined by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). In 2019, CRC developed the first official child-friendly version of the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) catalyzes collective action on behalf of young children and their families around the world by connecting with global and regional partners, facilitating knowledge exchange, and learning and coordinating advocacy for increased investment for quality services. ECDAN provides a forum for discussing and accessing early childhood development implementation and practice. It also provides access to relevant topics related to global early childhood development.

The Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC) is a network dedicated to leveraging social services to mitigate conflicts and promote social cohesion. The network is a unified body of stakeholders across sectors, including civil society, the media, government officials, philanthropic foundations/ organizations, practitioners, and academics who all champion peacebuilding and violence prevention through an Early Childhood Development (ECD) agenda. The ECPC provides this global networking and communications agenda which partners can use to develop and maintain sustainable programs, galvanize policies, and take action at scale to reduce violence and build capacity in vulnerable communities.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is the United Nations global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises. We support quality education outcomes for refugee, internally displaced and other crisis-affected girls and boys, so no one is left behind. ECW is administered under UNICEF’s financial, human resources and administrative rules and regulations; operations are run by the Fund’s own independent governance structure.

Founded in 2011, Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) is a growing network dedicated to building a culture of human rights by providing an innovative forum for HRE practitioners and supporters to learn, network, and exchange professional expertise and better serve our growing HRE community. In 2019, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, HRE USA created the Every Right, Every Child Campaign which includes a resource kit for teaching and learning about the CRC and an advocacy campaign calling for the ratification of the CRC.

The Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) is an open, global network of members working together within a humanitarian and development framework to ensure that all individuals have the right to a quality, safe, relevant, and equitable education. INEE’s work is founded on the fundamental right to education. In 2004, the INEE launched the Minimum Standards in Education: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. During 2021-2022, the INEE Minimum Standards will be updated for a second time through a comprehensive, multilingual, and consultative process – all stakeholders are encouraged to participate!
